The Danish Gathering of Minute Islands

Simon Lyngsø has been involved in a couple of networking days for the Gathering of Minute Islands - islands inhabiting between 20-1000 people. Latest event was held on Strynø in the beautiful sea of Southern Funen.
These islands are facing rather different challenges than the rest of the so called urbanised world.
"A gentlemen from Mandø, one of the respective islands in the union, told me how one year 3 women with each of their 3 kids left their husbands and the island. 12 people out of a total 50. It was a huge scandal and it meant that the island's men had to come up with some sort of solution to avoid such a scandal again. They made up a support team that could help each other better understand their wives. A team that would help them be better husbands that is!", explains Simon Lyngsø, founder of The Exploring Company.
The stories from these tiny communities are rather impressive and innovative in themselves. Simon, on the other hand, was there to help them deal with these new trends of urbanites leaving the city to live the more peaceful life in the countryside. Life had changed quite drastically as they suddenly dragged a lot of new turists too. The economy had changed from nursing their land to nursing their new turists and guests on the islands. What did they want? Why would they rather pay twice as much picking up potatoes and strawberries themselves? What did they need? And how could they accommodate their needs? Through a thorough insight into the urbanites lives and dos the picture has changed quite a bit and it all makes a lot more sense today.
